Hi Friend,

As bloggers, we don't often think about the appearance of our blogs, or what visitors will think or like when they see it.

We usually focus on what WE like, right?

It's important to emphasize, yes we create blogs to share our passions, but more important is pleasing our viewers.. THEY are the ones you want returning to your blog, yes?

In this email I'll give you some tips about website appearance to consider.

Some, you may already do, some - you may want to, so check your website and implement.

Why is how you visually present your website important?
  1. Visitors have VERY short attention spans
  2. Visitors are scanners
  3. Visitors are impatient
  4. If a visitor is confused just looking at your website they'll leave
  5. If your website is annoying to navigate through your menu, they'll leave.
  6. If your website screams with Ads and promotions they'll leave
  7. If your content does not provide value, help them in some way - they'll leave.

So here are some appearance tips to implement if needed. The Goal? To make your website visually appealing so visitors stay on it.

  • On the main menu of your blog you should have a "HOME" link, linking to your home page. This is easy to do by going into your WordPress "MENUS" , look for "Customized Link", url name: HOME, link: your website url.
  • Add a privacy policy, terms of use page to implement the new GDPR law.
  • PDF downloads are great but they should state some where what's IN the PDF. People want to know what they're downloading.
  • Only one social media share button is really necessary. If you use a floating one, you don't need one at the beginning or end of a post.
  • If you "borrow" ANY content from another website, you MUST give credit to where the information came from - if not , that's called plagiarism!
  • IMAGES: Use images that are High Definition, free to use. https://pixabay.com, https://www.pexels.com. Avoid using google search images. Give credit if required. Images should be large - 500 px or larger. It's easier to reduce the size of an image than to enlarge it.
  • Enlarge content text to 14 or 15 pixels for easy reading

Blog first impressions matter. If you do all of the above - FANTASTIC! If not, you have some work to do to clean up your blog for a better visiter viewing experience.

That's it for now. Got questions? Reply to this email and I'll get back to you :-)
