Air Force Day - Past, Present & Future
July 8, 2017
Meet current members of the Royal Canadian Air Force, see their aircraft up close on the ground and learn the many roles performed by Canada’s air force today. From helicopters and transports to the CF-18 Hornet plus the collection of vintage military aircraft from the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, visitors will have a chance to view almost 60 aircraft close up.
Three Nieuport 11 replicas from Vimy Flight will also be on static display. These are the biplanes and that flew over the Vimy Ridge Memorial in France for the 100th Anniversary of that iconic Canadian battle.
The Waterloo Warbirds' Canadair T-33 and de Havilland DH-115 Vampire will also be showing off their aircraft on static display!
Two of the RCAF's main fighter interceptor and ground/naval attack aircraft, the CF-18 Hornet, will be on display with their crew. Non-combat roles include training, aerospace demonstration and aerospace testing and evaluation.
The C-130J Hercules is used in many different roles within the RCAF. Troop transport, air-to-air refuelling, tactical airlifts, search and rescue and aircrew training are all common missions for this four engine aircraft.
Used as a long distance transport aircraft, the C-17 Globemaster can transport troops, vehicles, aircraft and supplies around the world. Just 12 days after obtaining the C-17s, RCAF's first Globemaster helped deliver over 33,000 kilos of relief supplies to the people of Jamaica after Hurricane Dean.
The CH-146 Griffon is a Utility Tactical Transport Helicopter primarily used to transport troops and supplies. Around the world, the RCAF uses the Griffon in roles such as search and rescue, counter-drug sorties, casualty evacuation, surveillance and aircrew training.
