How to Handle Backstory ❤️

A Story Success Clinic with Amy Johnson

 + Calling in Career Writers

tl:dr.

The next How To Write The Future podcast episode is up!

"How to Handle Backstory, A Story Success Clinic with Amy Johnson"

Listen, watch, or read the post (full transcript) here:

Hi Friend,

For every novel when I enter the revision, I inevitably cut the first 3 or 4 chapters.

Why?

Because I spent the beginning chapters ramping up the story, getting to know the characters, and edging sideways into the real story.

And then my critique partners tell me that my story really starts at Chapter 4. And I cut chapters. The story is so much better and on it's way to become something I'm proud to share with my readers.

If you have this problem of too much backstory and want some solutions, listen in or read the transcript.

🎧

In this episode:

  • I talk Amy Johnson through a critique of the opening of her story and suggest possible edits to enrich the readers’ experience.

  • I invite listeners to sign up for a Story Success Clinic session to be featured in a future podcast episode.
