The Cure for Perfectionism for Writers

August 7, 2014

Hi Friend,

To our new subscribers, thanks for joining the Creativity Sparks newsletter for novelists who want to build successful and sustainable careers!

That's me super hot and sweaty after a capoeira class in 100 degree heat in San Antonio, Texas a few weeks ago. I'm still a beginner, but showed up anyway at a new school as an out-of-towner. More on this below...

Here at Creativity Sparks we focus on creating and publishing fiction and sharing it with the world.

Here's 2 reasons why...

Because when we travel into a novel we can come back home to ourselves.

Because novels are our gift to the world.

I'm passionate about helping authors bring their gifts out into the world.

I help you write, publish and market your novels, in my one-on-one coaching, group coaching, classes and presentations.

We specialize in helping independent authors shine!

Friend, I'm guessing that you write fiction to be read.

I'm also guessing that you'd like to get your books into the hands of as many readers as possible, and have lots of books sales.

But sometimes it can be hard to write past the fear and the stuckness. It can be hard to do anything when I feel stuck or in a brain fog or just feeling bummed.

So, here's my cure for the perfectionism that strikes me.

Actually I drafted playful 10 tips that I use to get unstuck from my fear or brain fog, so that I can get writing (or in action on marketing) again.

1. Write with the other hand.
2. Play the opposite game.
3. Timed writing.
4. Listen to music.
5. Talk it out.
6. Write a really bad first draft.
7. Move your body. (This is where capoeira comes in!)
8. Run water.
9. Meditate.
10. Take a break.

Another way to get support... You can schedule a Discovery session with me.

As an author's coach and book producer (or book midwife as one of my clients called me), my role is to support you in getting your book out into the world.

You can also count on me to tell you the truth as I see it. If your book isn't ready, as an editor, I'll let you know.

If what you need are deadlines to get writing, I can help you with that too. One thing I am not, though, is the one who writes for you. That's your job!

But I understand the self-talk that both gets in the way of writing and the kind that can support your passion for writing.

I also understand how to gently and compassionately, yet firmly, take charge, to guide you to the writing life you'd like to have.

If this sounds good to you, and you feel ready, then take action and schedule a call with me.

You can also write me by replying to this email, if you have any questions.

:: I currently have 6 openings for complimentary Discovery sessions with authors in August. For new clients only.

Talking with me is a great way to clarify your goals, get motivated, and discover if you're ready to work with me. I'm invaluable -- and so are you! -- but to give you some frame of reference, I value these calls at $225.

Once you schedule your hour-long phone appointment (yes, Skype is available), then I'll send you a short questionnaire that you need to fill out and return to me. Schedule your Discovery Session here.

Coming Soon!

Starting October 1, I'll be teaching a 30-Day Writing Challenge to prepare your novel, just in time for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo).

Next week I'll share here how to sign up for the preview call I'll be giving at the end of the month and all the course details. I'm putting the final touches on these details and am not ready to reveal all, yet.

If you can't wait until then, write me by replying to this email, if you know you'd like to be in the class. :) Thanks!

That's it for this week!
Friend, Here's to you and your dreams!

Best,
Beth
