The American Crisis 2009 - What Can I Do?

Dear Members and Supporters

You've heard the question, and you've asked the question. Of course, the answer depends on what it is you are trying to do. If you are concerned with salvaging what's left of the Republic we all thought we were growing up in, restoring the Constitution, etc., then the answers are simple. The problem is, most Texans are lying to themselves. They don't want to do what it takes to turn this country around. They need to be informed about certain things they are doing that not working.

233 years ago today, after the Continental Army was driven out of New Jersey, an article titled "The American Crisis" was published in the Pennsylvania Journal, DECEMBER 23, 1776.

Written by an aide-de-camp to General Nathanael Greene named Thomas Paine, General Washington ordered it read to the troops:

"These are the times that try men's souls.

The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country...

Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph."

If you think any of the following things are going to help turn this country around, you are sadly mistaken:

Voting for "the lesser of two evils" because he/she has a better chance of winning. (Are you mad? That is the way to guarantee that Evil wins! Have you never heard of voting your conscience?)

Writing to your Congressman - forget it. If they won't read the bills they are voting on, what makes you think they will read your letter? Unless the congressman is a personal friend or a relative, there is no way that a letter means anything to him/her.

Forwarding lots of e-mail to your friends - that's a good way to lose some friends, and it rarely educates. In fact, they're probably getting the same e-mail from several other people (this tactic is often counter-productive);

Being angry - anger is not good for you, and the government doesn't care. You can sustain anger only so long, and then you burn out, and then you lapse into complacency. You don't want to get angry, you want to remove virtually every incumbent from office!!!

"Okay, so what can I do?"

  1. Join a party and get active. You'll have far more impact in one that is not currently in office. We recommend the Constitution Party, obviously. Click here for your application form.
  2. Consider running for office in 2010. In order to do that, you must contact your party leader or the proper election officials (county or state, municipality or school board, etc.) And the deadline for that is January 4, 2010! Less than two weeks away! Just write to Chairman@CPTexas.us
  3. Start building up your own list of voters who agree with you, and ask them if they will join you in a compact -- to vote for the best candidates, and stop wasting their votes on "the lesser of two evils." This is far more radical than you might think, for many people. Why should you be happy to vote only once, when you can legally vote eleven times by getting ten friends to vote for the candidate you believe is best!
  4. Donate, and be generous in your donations to the Constitution Party, and to your favorite candidate.
  5. Host a series of meetings in your home with your friends, and invite your favorite candidate to come and enlighten them, recruit them to his/her team, and to motivate them to channeled patriotic energy that results in electing new people, who believe in the US Constitution! Our Texas Tea Party is just the place to start.

Thomas Paine's pamphlet entitled "The American Crisis" opened with:

THESE are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated. Britain, with an army to enforce her tyranny, has declared that she has a right (not only to TAX) but "to BIND us in ALL CASES WHATSOEVER" and if being bound in that manner, is not slavery, then is there not such a thing as slavery upon earth. Even the expression is impious; for so unlimited a power can belong only to God.

The Federal government is out of control and cares not about constitutions, bill of rights, declarations, etc. The war is on and you are in it whether you like it or not!

I will conclude with the ending paragraph:

I thank God, that I fear not. I see no real cause for fear. I know our situation well, and can see the way out of it. While our army was collected, Howe dared not risk a battle; and it is no credit to him that he decamped from the White Plains, and waited a mean opportunity to ravage the defenceless Jerseys; but it is great credit to us, that, with a handful of men, we sustained an orderly retreat for near an hundred miles, brought off our ammunition, all our field pieces, the greatest part of our stores, and had four rivers to pass. None can say that our retreat was precipitate, for we were near three weeks in performing it, that the country might have time to come in. Twice we marched back to meet the enemy, and remained out till dark. The sign of fear was not seen in our camp, and had not some of the cowardly and disaffected inhabitants spread false alarms through the country, the Jerseys had never been ravaged. Once more we are again collected and collecting; our new army at both ends of the continent is recruiting fast, and we shall be able to open the next campaign with sixty thousand men, well armed and clothed. This is our situation, and who will may know it. By perseverance and fortitude we have the prospect of a glorious issue; by cowardice and submission, the sad choice of a variety of evils - a ravaged country - a depopulated city - habitations without safety, and slavery without hope - our homes turned into barracks and bawdy-houses for Hessians, and a future race to provide for, whose fathers we shall doubt of. Look on this picture and weep over it! and if there yet remains one thoughtless wretch who believes it not, let him suffer it unlamented.

 

It is time to stand up and lead this country out of her socialistic and communistic ways. Won't you be a part of this revival?

If General and President Washington thought it important enough to have read to his troops in the midst of battle, let me encourage you to not only read the story but to listen to the words of Thomas Paine here.

So we conclude with the question: "Okay, so what can I do?"

The answer is to quote Sherlock Holmes: "Elementary"!

Run and Recruit! It's that simple!

If you don't run for office, who will?

If you won't fund advertising, who will?
