Subject: My values aren't just words

Why walking the talk is important (even though it's excruciatingly hard at times).

My son’s coach had just unleashed on the entire team.

I’ve been around tough coaches. I don’t flinch easily. But this went way too far.

It was personal. And cruel.

To give you a taste…

He said he hated every one of them.

He said he was there only because it’s his job.

He called them names I won’t say here.

To say this shocked us is an understatement. Especially given our reasons for choosing that school:

  • A Christian foundation.

  • A mission centered on empathy and purpose.

  • A baseball program that (supposedly) focused on winning and losing with integrity.

But the stated mission - and guiding principles - don’t matter if they’re just words on a wall.

This isn’t just about a baseball team.

It’s about leadership. It's about character. It's about credibility.

Because when actions don’t match the values you claim to stand for, you lose people.

The school has (thankfully) done the right thing and parted ways with the coach. Yet credibility was lost (this wasn't the first such outburst).

Aren’t we seeing that play out (again and again) within our society?

People say the right things, then do the opposite. Leaders refuse to lead by example. Institutions ask for trust they haven't earned.

That’s why I’m speaking up today on the podcast.

This episode is about leadership, integrity, and the legal profession’s responsibility to act — especially when it’s uncomfortable or unpopular.

Because if we want a better society, it begins with us.

Listen >>>here to why lawyers have a responsibility to walk the talk, no matter how hard.

You might not agree with everything I have to say. You may think this subject is too political (although you should know that I do not have a “side” and call out both today).

Regardless, I’m going there.

Doing what you believe is right is rarely easy. But it’s always necessary.

XO,

Heather

P.S. This is the last episode of Season 4. Yes, there will be a Season 5 (starting this Fall). And in the meantime, I'll still be here every Tuesday.
