New state law to cap community college staff buyouts and severance agreements

Governor Bruce Rauner signed into law caps that will limit the amount a community college may offer staff members in buyout or severance agreements, limiting the offer to no more than one year of salary and benefits in a buyout or severance package.

The legislation, introduced in the Illinois House by State Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton), was prompted by the College of DuPage Board of Trustees’ $763,000 buyout offer of their scandal-ridden President Robert Breuder last year.
