CAI Awarded Funding from SAMHSA to Continue Administering the CoE-PHI

CAI is pleased to announce that the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has awarded us funding to continue as administrator of the Center of Excellence for Protected Health Information (CoE-PHI) through September of 2026!

This opportunity allows us to continue partnering with Legal Action Center as principle legal partner and expand our partnership with the Network for Public Health Law.

This means that we’re here to help you, for another 3 years, to keep you abreast of changes to health privacy laws, and to understand how these changes affect the care that you provide to the individuals that you serve.

The CoE-PHI Team plans to seamlessly continue to provide training, technical assistance, and resource creation to assist people and organizations in understanding and applying health privacy laws that pertain to mental health and substance use information during this critical time.

Visit the CoE-PHI website to access resources and on-demand learning opportunities or to request technical assistance.

This project is supported by SAMHSA of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of a financial assistance award with 100% funded by SAMHSA/HHS. The contents are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily represent the official views of, nor an endorsement, by SAMHSA/HHS, or the U.S. Government.

Funded by SAMHSA, the CoE-PHI develops and disseminates resources, training, and TA for states, healthcare providers, school administrators and individuals and families to improve understanding and application of federal privacy laws and regulations, including FERPA, HIPAA, and 42 CFR Part 2, when providing or receiving treatment for substance use and mental health.

Resources, training, technical assistance, and any other information provided through the CoE-PHI do not constitute legal advice.
