Featured Athlete
Ilan Santos - 6th Grade Basketball Player
At STACK we pride ourselves on providing as much opportunity as possible for our athletes to improve. It takes a special kind of young athlete to take advantage of all these great opportunities. Ilan is one of those special athletes. He has committed himself to improvement through a relentless work ethic and takes advantage of every opportunity that comes his way. Ilan is committed to our AAU basketball teams, speed and agility training, shooting and dribbling classes or just coming into to STACK to get some shots up on his own. Ilan shows up everyday ready to work and is focused on getting better. In todays world very few athletes are willing to put in the hours of practice it takes to improve. Ilan has sacrificed hours of his time to get better and he has seen the results. We are very proud of the success Ilan has had and can not wait to see what the future holds for him. Keep up the great work!

What's going on?
This past weekend many of our teams had their first couple games. In the winter season STACK plays mostly Town Travel, CYO and other AAU programs that have teams. This past weekend wee were very pleased with the effort all the STACK athletes gave. Early in the season is always a great opportunity to see where the team is at and what it needs to improved on. Our coaches will work hard this week to help our players make the adjustments needed to continue to find success. We look forward to another great week of practice and will continue to work hard to get better.
Tips for Sports Parents
NCAA Coach's Advice To parents
At STACK we understand that all parents want the best for their child. We also understand that even though parents do not want to see their child struggle or fail that it cab be a good thing when that happens. The reality is when it comes to your child's youth athletic experience, failure is the greatest learning tool. At STACK we believe that sports are a great tool for teaching children life lessons. In life, everyone faces failure and hardships but the ability to bounce back and learn from those experiences is an essential mental quality to have. We often talk to our parents and players about this dynamic. We hope that this article from the Notre Dame Women's Basketball Team will help elaborate on those converstions.
High School Team Training
STACK is extremely grateful to have trained two of the strongest public high school basketball programs in the area this past offseason. Mahwah High School and Ramsey High School spent there offseason at STACK working hard on the court and in the weight room. Several STACK players have emerged as key contributors to the Mahwah and Ramsey teams. We are very excited to see the great things both these teams will accomplish as the season progresses.

Did you know?
Did you know when Coach Ryan attended Mahwah High School in the 90's he was not only All-State and All-County in basketball, but he was in soccer too. When asked what he was most proud of from his high school sports career he said, "I didn't know this till late spring my senior year but I was told I started every varsity game for basketball and soccer during my 4 years. That meant more to me than all the individual statistics and awards because it showed how dedicated I was to my teammates, coaches and school. Playing for Mahwah meant the world to me at that time."
Coach Ryan is a believer that young athletes should play multiple sports and not specialize in just one at an early age. He believes a young athlete specializing in a sport at an early age is at high risk of burnout by the time high school comes around. Coach Ryan credits all his success as an athlete to understanding the proper approach to sports passed down from his parents, a positive attitude and a relentless work ethic. Even though basketball was his true passion soccer served as a great break from it and only affected him positively on his way to earning a college scholarship for basketball.
These attributes and qualities that made Coach Ryan the athlete he was is exactly what is being taught at STACK today.
