Subject: Cinemapolis Recommends - Virtual Cinema 🎥 Updates for June 24, 2020

Greetings, Cinemapolitans,

Work behind the scenes continues to get your favorite independent cinema up and ready for re-opening. While the governor's office has announced that cinemas will not be included in Phase 4, we expect guidelines to be announced very soon. Stay tuned!

In the meantime, we're still offering opportunities to enjoy great Cinemapolis Approved™ films at home. That includes a locally produced documentary that is available NOW. Filmmakers Sue Perlgut and Nils Hoover have chronicled an overlooked segment of theater history with their new film It's All Right To Be Woman Theatre. It's available for a limited time, so catch it soon, and join the filmmakers TONIGHT for a free Q & A!

We're also adding another three great new films on Friday, including our second Pride month feature and another award-winning international title that had been planned for this year's FLEFF.

We'll be bidding farewell to a few of our current favorites, so be sure to click over to see Papicha, Picture a Scientist, Shirley, and Tommaso soon. They're only available through tomorrow, Thursday, June 25th.

As always, the full listing of all current and upcoming virtual films, including those titles ending tomorrow, can be found on our Virtual Cinema page.

From 1970 – 1976 It’s All Right To Be Woman Theater inspired audiences as they performed in non-traditional performance spaces in New York City, and traveled to women’s centers, colleges and universities and were seen on PBS. Founded by Sue Perlgut and Lynn Laredo the troupe created fresh and innovative forms of expression based on stories from their lives, at a time when women were beginning to break free from the roles that had traditionally defined them.

The troupe’s creation and work shaped the lives they lived and leaves a legacy that persists to this day for future generations.

FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO

For They Know Not What They Do

“This doc is always thoughtful and tightly edited, and it has an emotional impact that not many docs can equal.”

FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO examines the intersection of religion, sexual orientation and gender identity in America. In the wake of the Supreme Court case legalizing marriage equality, the Right has launched a new campaign to limit the rights of LGBTQ citizens across the country.

By telling the stories of four families struggling with these issues, the film offers healing, clarity and understanding to those caught in the crosshairs of scripture, sexuality, and identity.

RECOMMENDED VIEWING

The art of film provides a unique space where we can grapple with and illuminate contemporary issues. As our nation continues to come to terms with its long history of racial violence and inequities, we encourage all Cinemapolitans to watch, read, and listen to black voices; act in support of anti-racist causes; and donate to organizations that are providing services and aid to movements of social protest for racial justice.
