VIRTUAL CINEMA
ETERNAL BEAUTY

Eternal Beauty

“Creating a highly unusual and welcome look at schizophrenia that neither demonizes those with the condition nor patronizes them as suffering martyrs, British drama Eternal Beauty pulls off a tricky feat.”

When Jane (Sally Hawkins) is dumped at the altar she has a breakdown and spirals into a chaotic world, where love (both real and imagined) and family relationships collide with both touching and humorous consequences.

Director: Craig Roberts
Writer: Craig Roberts
Stars: David Thewlis, Billie Piper, Sally Hawkins

SON OF THE WHITE MARE

Son of the White Mare

“Beyond being historically significant and a truly gorgeous film, Son of the White Mare manages to connect with our most ancient arts and make them digestible for any viewer.”

One of the great psychedelic masterpieces of world animation, Son of the White Mare is a swirling, color-mad maelstrom of mythic monsters and Scythian heroes, part-Nibelungenlied, part-Yellow Submarine, lit by jagged bolts of lightning and drenched in rivers of blue, red, gold and green.

Directed by Hungarian animator Marcell Jankovics (famed for his 1974 Oscar-nominated short Sisyphus), Son of the White Mare has been restored in 4K using the original 35mm camera negative and sound elements by Arbelos in collaboration with the Hungarian National Film Institute – Film Archive.

Director: Marcell Jankovics
Writers: László György, Marcell Jankovics
Stars: György Cserhalmi, Vera Pap, Gyula Szabó

THE AUGUST VIRGIN

The August Virgin

Heartbreakingly tender, intoxicating stroll of a movie… Itsaso Arana gives a beautiful, transcendent performance.”

Eva is about to turn 33. Her decision to stay in Madrid in the sweltering month of August, when most of the city’s inhabitants flee, is something of a leap of faith – she’s in search of herself and her own life. A former boyfriend who still pines for her, a young mother who Eva’s lost touch with, a sexy Welsh guy with a thing for anti-fascist songs, a Reiki therapist who wants to align her female energies, and a new possible love interest, are just a few of the characters that fill her month of revelations, regrets and discoveries.

The August Virgin is the journey of one woman, a dreamy, sensual summer story of delayed coming of age, dancing in the streets, and good conversation.

Director: Jonás Trueba
Writers: Itsaso Arana, Jonás Trueba
Stars: Itsaso Arana, Vito Sanz, Isabelle Stoffel
