Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
The clock is ticking - we're only selling 150 tickets to Sunday's “And the Winner Is...” Awards Night Party, so get yours today! And while you're at it, get ready for yet another Oscar nominee arriving on screen this Friday:
  • Nominated for Best International Feature Film, Les MisĂ©rables is this year's official entry from France. Co-written and directed by Ladj Ly, it takes the familiar tropes of a police thriller and makes a clear statement about 21st Century Europe. Ben Croll of The Wrap praises the film for admitting that "these preventable tragedies and pointless injustices have been manifesting themselves for hundreds of years."
In addition to the big party, we have a handful of additional special reasons to head to the movies in the coming week as well:

In this stunning film full of intrigue, drama and mesmerizing beauty, you’ll get up close and personal with pollinators–butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, and bats–upon whom a third of the world’s food supply depends. Incredible cinematography, high-speed, and time-lapse filmmaking showcase the unsung heroes of our planet in spectacular detail.

This film screening is part of Darwin Days, the Paleontological Research Institution’s annual celebration of the wild world of evolution.
This year’s theme: The Power of Pollination

Cinemapolis and Bike Walk Tompkins continue their new monthly bike movie series with the festival favorite, Motherload. Stay tuned for more news on exciting up-coming titles!

Motherload is a crowdsourced documentary about a new mom’s quest to understand and promote the cargo bike movement in a gas-powered, digital and divided world. As Liz explores the burgeoning global movement to replace cars with purpose-built bikes, she learns about the bicycle’s history and potential future as the ultimate “social revolutionizer.” Her experiences as a cyclist, as a mother, and in discovering the cargo bike world, teach Liz that sustainability is not necessarily about compromise and sacrifice and there are few things more empowering, in an age of consumption, than the ability to create everything from what seems to be nothing.

AFTER PARKLAND
National "Day of Conversation"
Wed, Feb 12 at 7 pm

To commemorate the 2 year anniversary of the tragic mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Cinemapolis is joining more than 100 cinemas across the country for a special one-night screening of this powerful and timely documentary.

Filmed in the days after the shooting in 2018 that killed 17 people and launched a nationwide student movement, this intimate chronicle follows the students and families whose lives were forever transformed - including senior David Hogg, who recorded his class during the attack and became the face of the Never Again movement. Weaving together interviews with the victims' loved ones, verite footage, and personal videos, After Parkland is a moving portrait of grief and one community's crusade to turn tragedy into progress.

While you're planning your next week at the movies, be sure to get in soon to catch Uncut Gems. It has its last screenings THIS Thursday, February 6th.
 See you at the movies!
