Greetings, Cinemapolitans:
Three new movies on Friday and a BUNCH of special events are all on the way in the coming week:
  • Another marvelously rendered music documentary comes our way with Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice. A.O. Scott of the NY Times names it a Critic's Pick, saying "Her cleareyed, down-to-earth thoughts on her profession, her family and American culture (musical and otherwise) make her someone you want to know better."

  • A big hit at this year's Sundance film festival, Brittany Runs A Marathon is a "fact-based" comedy about the titular heroine's effort to get healthy. Dennis Harvey of Variety calls it "the best kind of “crowdpleaser”: one that earns every emotional beat that might seem formulaic in four out of five similar enterprises."

  • Kiera Knightly stars in the true-life whistleblower thriller, Official SecretsTim Grierson of Screen Daily says it has "a rousing electricity, and...a cast which leans into the story’s urgency and continued relevance."
AND plenty of special events on the way, including one THIS Thursday -

Academy Award nominee Benedict Cumberbatch takes on the title role of Shakespeare’s great tragedy. Now seen by over 900,000 people worldwide, the original 2015 NT Live broadcast of Hamlet returns to cinemas to celebrate National Theatre Live’s 10th Anniversary.
Fri, Sep 13 at 9 pm

Our friends from Ithaca Fantastik are back with another installment of their Fantastik Friday series.

Filmmaker Tom Botchii Skowronski will be on hand for a screening of Artik, a horror movie that follows a comic book obsessed kid and his serial killer father.

Don't miss this ONE NIGHT ONLY screening with the filmmaker, which begins at 9 PM

Sun, Sep 15 at 2 pm

The Family Classics Picture Show introduces the magic of cinema to parents and kids with a year-long series of 10 fun and affordable Sunday matinees.

The series is made possible by lead sponsor The Ainslie Reilly Group at Morgan Stanley, with additional support from Mama Goose.
