Greetings, Cinemapolitans!

Labor Day weekend is coming, so get out your white outfits for one last night at the movies. Our late-summer hits are joined by one new film on Friday:
  • In Frank, Irish director Lenny Abrahamson joins forces with an international cast that includes Maggie Gyllenhaal, Domhnall Gleeson, and Michael Fassbender as the titular indie band frontman who refuses to remove his paper mache head, both on-stage and off. Critic John Anderson calls Frank "a genuine original in a summer sea of sameness, and a darkly comedic manifesto against the cultural status quo."
A couple of special events hit our theaters in the coming week.

On Tuesday, September 2nd at 7pm, filmmaker and author Cayce Mell brings her remarkable documentary, Tracing Outlines. The film sheds light on the untold story of Elizabeth Rockwell and Outlines, her small modern art gallery in downtown Pittsburgh, which showcased the works of such notorious avant garde artists as Alexander Calder, Joseph Cornell, John Cage, Maya Deren, and many others, at a time when their art was considered controversial and even communistic. Cayce will lead a Q & A after the screening.

Then on Thursday, September 4th at 6pm, following up on the success of their free screening of Silver Linings Playbook, the Mental Health Association in Tompkins County will present a free screening of Good Will Hunting, followed by a discussion of the depiction of mental health issues in the film.

Just a few more chances to catch What If. See it before it leaves on Thursday!

See you at the movies!
