Greetings, Cinemapolitans!

Some exciting special events and a National Theatre Live Encore join two new films on the schedule in the coming week:
  • A third generation of Coppolas has taken up residency behind the lens. In Gia Coppola's directorial debut, Palo Alto, modern high school culture is at the center of what the Village Voice calls "a movie of exceedingly delicate feeling, the kind you can make only when you're very young or very old." Based on a book of short stories written by James Franco, the film stars some other children of Hollywood - Emma Roberts (daughter of Eric, niece of Julia) and Jack Kilmer (son of Val).

  • A hit at last year's Toronto International Film Festival, Words and Pictures uses its A-List cast (Clive Owen, Juliette Binoche) and a subtle script to elevate a summer rom-com into what critic Anna Taraska calls "an intimate portrait of a tangibly human relationship between two people who are perfectly aware of their shortcomings and don’t hide them." Catch this LIMITED ENGAGEMENT while you can!

Local talents are on display in TWO special events coming up in the next week.

On Sunday, follow up an evening show of Chef with a special 9 pm screening of the latest episode of Food Network Star. Local blogger & cook and Food Network Star finalist, Emma Frisch will be on hand for an 8:30 intro and a talk-back following the show!

Then on Monday, the students of Lehman Alternative Community School take over the theater for Popcorn for Dinner: An LACS Original Film Festival. Beginning at 5:30, featured films will include projects from Video Production class, films made by middle schoolers made for the Road Show project and various other films that students made for classes, projects and committees.

Just a few more chances to catch Cold in July and The German Doctor. They both end on Thursday to make room for the new schedule!

See you at the movies!
