Greetings, Cinemapolitans!

A week filled with special events begins on Friday, and two new films come with it:
  • Back after its triumphant sneak preview at last month's Fantastic Film Friday, It Follows is the indie horror film that everyone is talking about. Part STD-allegory, part 70s horror throwback, David Robert Mitchell's supernatural thriller has timeless jump-scares and plenty of eerie dread. See the film the Telegraph calls "tender, remarkably ingenious and scalp-pricklingly scary."

  • Another Oscar contender joins the line-up on Friday, this time from Argentina. A nominee for Best Foreign Language Film, Wild Tales wraps several interconnected stories together into an absurdist, satirical tale of love and revenge. Written and directed by Damián Szifron and produced by Pedro Almodovar, the film provides what Eric Kohn of IndieWire calls "a savage assault on contemporary Argentine society, skewering class and gender biases through a series of morbid segments alive with dark humor."

April 4 marks the anniversary of a great loss in our nation - the assassination of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King. To celebrate Dr. King's legacy, at 5 pm on Saturday, Cinemapolis will offer a free screening of the documentary Meet Me At Equality: The People's March on Washington. Made by Ithaca College Professor James Rada, the film introduces us to 28 people who where there on a day when the people came to the nation’s capital to demand democracy. Professor Rada will be on hand as will students who recently joined him in Alabama to work on a companion documentary, "Sights and Sounds of Selma." Admission is free to this special event.

Then on Sunday, our season of Shakespeare's Globe on Screen continues with acclaimed production of Shakespeare’s grotesquely violent and daringly experimental Titus Andronicus. Featuring visceral staged violence, this version was part of the Globe’s Summer 2014 “Arms and the Man” season. Titus screens at Cinemapolis at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 5th and again at 7 pm on Wednesday, April 8th.

All this AND the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, which opens on April 9th! Amid all the excitement, don't forget that three films will be leaving us soon: Gett, Still Alice, and Red Army all leave on Thursday.

See you at the movies!
