Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
As we head towards the 21st Annual Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival next week, we have TWO new openers arriving on Friday:
  • French actress Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre makes her feature writing & directorial debut with the prison drama, The Mustang. Matthias Schoenaerts stars as Roman Coleman, a prisoner in a Nevada correctional facility taking part in a training program for wild horses. Owen Gleibeman of Variety says it's "a touching and original piece of bare-bones sentimental humanism, and Schoenaerts is terrific in it."

  • Nashville-raised writer/director Harmony Korine is back with his follow-up to Spring Breakers, the pot-infused odyssey, The Beach Bum.  Matthew McConaughey leads a stellar ensemble cast through a series of misadventures in the Florida Keys. Ryan Oliver of the Playlist says it's, "very much of a piece with 'Trash Humpers' and 'Spring Breakers,' but in a surprising change of pace for Korine, the film is more at ease with itself, and more emotional than either of those two provocative efforts."
But before we get to the weekend, there's a special community rental event on the way:

There’s no need to wait for spring to get inspired… The Streets Alive! Film Festival is back for its sixth edition with a FREE night of inspirational walking and biking films from Ithaca, the US, and across the world! A mix of short films hand-picked locally as well as a selection from Portland’s Filmed By Bike Festival will be shown on the big screen starting at 7 pm.

Doors open at 6:30 and free popcorn is available for the first 75 people. Plus, you’ll get to learn about local active transportation groups and stay for the bubbling conversation.

NewsTalk WHCU is partnering with Cinemapolis to present the Legends and Legacies Film Series. It continues Sunday, March 31st at 2 pm with the Academy Award-winning classic, The China Syndrome.

This critically acclaimed film stars Jane Fonda, Jack Lemmon and Michael Dougles and tells the story of a reporter and her cameraman discovering safety cover-ups at a nuclear power plant. The film was released in theaters 12 days before the Three Mile Island nuclear accident, which occurred 40 years ago this week, on March 28, 1979.

General Admission tickets for this special event screening are just $10, with discounts for Seniors and Youth age 12 and under.
While you’re planning your next week at the movies, get in soon to catch Climax, Everybody Knows, and Out of Blue. They all have their last screenings THIS Thursday, March 28th!

 See you at the movies!
