Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
We head towards our big AWARDS NIGHT PARTY and add another nominated film to the mix this Friday:
  • From Lebanon comes another nominee for Best Foreign Language Film. Director Nadine Labaki's Capernaum follows the unlikely court case of Zain, a young Lebanese boy who is suing his parents for bringing him into the world.  This darkly satirical drama is a NY Times Critic's Pick, with A.O. Scott calling it "a sprawling tale wrenched from real life [that] goes beyond the conventions of documentary or realism into a mode of representation that doesn’t quite have a name. It’s a fairy tale and an opera, a potboiler and a news bulletin, a howl of protest and an anthem of resistance."
And, just in time for Valentine's Day, we also have Shakespeare's tragic romance coming THIS THURSDAY

Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okonedo play Shakespeare’s famous fated couple in his great tragedy of politics, passion and power – Antony & Cleopatra
Caesar and his assassins are dead. General Mark Antony now rules alongside his fellow defenders of Rome. But at the fringes of a war-torn empire the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra and Mark Antony have fallen fiercely in love. In a tragic fight between devotion and duty, obsession becomes a catalyst for war.

Director Simon Godwin returns to National Theatre Live screens with this hotly anticipated production, following broadcasts of Twelfth Night, Man and Superman, and The Beaux’ Stratagem. Antony & Cleopatra screens at Cinemapolis on Thursday, February 14 at 6:30 pm and again on Saturday, February 16 at 1:30 pm.

The Family Classics Picture Show introduces the magic of cinema to parents and kids with a year-long series of 10 fun and affordable Sunday matinees. The program continued the 2019 season on Sunday, February 17th at 2pm with a screening of the mythological adventure, Jason & the Argonauts.

Discounted tickets for these special Sunday events are just $3 for adults, $2 for kids, or $10 for an entire family.

The series is made possible by lead sponsor The Ainslie Reilly Group at Morgan Stanley, with additional support from Mama Goose.

While you’re planning your next week at the movies, get in soon to catch Shoplifters. It has its last screenings THIS Thursday, February 14th!

 See you at the movies!
