Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
We're starting February fresh off the Academy Award nominations with one new opener and the special return of a nominated favorite:
  • Nominated for Best Foreign Language Film, Cold War is the latest from Polish Oscar winner Pawel Pawlikowski (Ida). It tracks the decades-spanning romance of Wiktor and Irena, a pair of musicians attempting to preserve European folk music before it vanishes.  Leslie Felperin of the Hollywood Reporter calls it "bittersweet and unbearably lovely, a sad ballad of two lovers who can't stand to stay apart but also sometimes can't stand each other either."

  • AND, returning for a special limited engagement to celebrate its multiple Oscar nominations, don't miss your extra chance to catch Melissa McCarthy and Richard E. Grant in Can You Ever Forgive Me?

All that, and some special events are on the way, as well, including one THIS WEDNESDAY

The Ithaca College Center for LGBT Education, Outreach & Services and Planned Parenthood's Out for Health: LGBT Health & Wellness Program are partnering to present the Transuary Film Series—three award-winning documentary films, each highlighting unique experiences of members of the transgender community.

The series finishes up on Wednesday, January 30th at 7 pm with a special screening of TRANSMILITARYAround 15,500 transgender people serve in the U.S. military — notably the largest transgender employer in the US. Transmilitary chronicles the lives of four individuals who put their careers on the line by coming out as transgender in hopes of attaining the equal right to serve. The ban was lifted in 2016, but with the Trump administration now trying to reinstate it, their futures hang in the balance again.

All Transuary screenings feature resources and information about local transgender services.
While you’re planning your next week at the movies, get in soon to catch A Star Is Born. It has its last screenings THIS Thursday, January 31st!

 See you at the movies!
