Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
We're heading toward the Thanksgiving holiday with ONE new opener hitting our screens on Friday:
  • Actor/director Joel Edgerton adapts the timely true-life tale, Boy Erased. Based on the memoir by Garrard Conley, the film stars Academy Award nominee Lucas Hedges (Manchester by the Sea) as Jared, the son of a Baptist preacher who's sent to a gay conversion program. Nicole Kidman and Russell Crow round out a stellar cast as Jared's parents.  Stephen Farber of the Hollywood Reporter calls it "a richly humanistic, emotionally searing drama that sticks in the memory."
In addition to this new title, we also have some special event screenings coming up, including one TONIGHT

Food Bank of the Southern Tier presents:
Chasing the Dream
Tues, Nov 13 at 5:30 pm

Join us for a FREE special screening of the Struggles on College Campuses episode from the new WSKG series Chasing the Dream. The 30-minute episode will be followed by a panel discussion with featured interviewees & higher education leaders:

  • Deb Molenhoff, Tompkins Cortland Community College
  • Natasha R. Thompson, Food Bank of the Southern Tier
  • Julie Hickman-Godoy (Ithaca College),
  • Devon Rosen (Anabel’s Grocery/Cornell University)

Broadcast from London’s West End, Ian McKellen’s ‘extraordinarily moving portrayal’ (Independent) of King Lear arrives on our screens. Jonathan Munby directs this ‘nuanced and powerful’ (The Times) contemporary retelling of Shakespeare’s tender, violent, moving and shocking play.

Considered by many to be the greatest tragedy ever written, King Lear sees two aging fathers – one a King, one his courtier – reject the children who truly love them. Their blindness unleashes a tornado of pitiless ambition and treachery, as family and state are plunged into a violent power struggle with bitter ends.

While you plan your next week at the movies, get in soon to catch Mid90s. It has its final screenings THIS Thursday, November 15th! Also, please note our special limited showtimes on the Thanksgiving holiday.
 See you at the movies!
