Greetings, Cinemapolitans!

October kicks off with one new film getting added to our current list of favorites:
  • Garnering universal acclaim since debuting at Sundance in January, Love is Strange is the latest from award-winning Writer/Director Ira Sachs. The knock-out cast includes John Lithgow, Alfred Molina, and Marisa Tomei, each turning in what Time Out New York calls "career-topping work [in] a sensitive domestic tragedy about the finite nature of any union."  Awards season begins here and now!
More special events in the coming week begin on Friday with a free screening in celebration of National Manufacturing Day.

The Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce presents a special, free screening of American Made Movie, a documentary that delves into the current state of U.S. manufacturing and the role of new technology in its possible resurrection. Additional info and demonstrations will be part of the event, which kicks off at 6 pm on Friday, October 3rd (screening begins at 6:30 pm).

Another free screening follows on Monday at 6:30 pm, as the Mental Health Association in Tompkins County returns, this time with the Academy Award winning Blue Jasmine. As with their previous free screenings, a panel discussion on depictions of mental health in the film follows.

Through the rest of the week, the Cine con CULTURA Film Festival continues with the New York premiere of the Mexican film La Jaula de Oro on Tuesday, Oct 7 at 7pm, followed by another regional premiere - the Venezuelan film, Pelo Malo on Thursday, Oct 9 at 7 pm.

With all these special screenings, some regular films will be pre-empted, so read the schedule carefully!

See you at the movies!
