Greetings, Cinemapolitans!

We enter August with TWO new openers coming on Friday:
  • Indie auteur Gillian Robespierre (Obvious Child) returns to our screens with her Sundance hit, Landline. Reuniting with Jenny Slate, Robespierre travels back to 1995 for a Manhattan-set tale of family, love, and infidelity.  IndieWire's David Ehrlich calls it "a textured, silly, sweet, and deeply felt comedy."

  • Director William Oldroyd makes his feature debut with Lady Macbeth. Florence Pugh stars in this stark, brooding tale of an arranged marriage in 19th century England. Adapted from a novella by Nikolai Leskov, Guy Lodge of Variety says it "reveals a violent moral ambiguity that needles the mind far longer than its polite period-piece trappings suggest."

In addition to new movies, we have TWO chances to see live theater on the big screen in the coming week:

All children, except one, grow up…

Captured live at the National Theatre, a recorded performance of JM Barrie’s much-loved tale screens in cinemas. When Peter Pan, leader of the Lost Boys, loses his shadow, headstrong Wendy helps him to reattach it. In return, she is invited to Neverland, where Tinker Bell the fairy, Tiger Lily and the vengeful Captain Hook await. A riot of magic, music and make-believe ensues.

A delight for children and adults alike, Sally Cookson (NT Live: Jane Eyre) directs this wondrously inventive production, a co-production with Bristol Old Vic theatre.

Nominated for five 2017 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical, Falsettos is a hilarious and poignant look at a modern family revolving around the life of a gay man Marvin, his wife, his lover, his soon‑to‑be‑bar‑mitzvahed son, their psychiatrist, and the lesbians next door. Lincoln Center Theater’s production stars Christian Borle, Stephanie J. Block, Andrew Rannells, and Brandon Uranowitz, all of whom received Tony nominations for their respective performances.

Captured live at Lincoln Center, Falsettos screens at Cinemapolis on Thursday, August 10 at 6:30 and again on Saturday, August 12 at 1:30 pm.

While you're planning your next week at the movies, be sure to get in soon to catch Beatriz at Dinner and The Hero. They both have their last screenings THIS Thursday, August 3rd!
 See you at the movies!
