More new films and special events are on their way in the coming week:  With Green Room, writer/director Jeremy Saulnier (Blue Ruin) brings another break-neck visceral thriller. This time, he takes us on a bloody punk rock survival mission, following a broke band as they face off with a gang of neo-Nazis led by a playing-against-type Patrick Stewart. Jason Gorber of Indiewire says it's "very much...a thinking person's thriller, one that treats its audience with respect while still managing to shock and surprise." Ethan Hawk stars in Born to Be Blue, Robert Budreau's twisty take on re-imagining the life of Jazz great Chet Baker. Not a typical biopic, the film uses composite characters and a "film within a film" device to get at the heart of Baker's story, if not the exact facts. Variety's Andrew Barker sums it up thusly:  "Upending the conventions of the musical rise-and-fall formula while still offering a relatively straightforward three-act narrative, the film is anchored by an Ethan Hawke performance that ranks among the best of his career."  Also in the coming week, we have a trio of community rental events that include the Tompkins Workers' Center & Midstate COSH May Day Screening of A Day's Work, the Ithaca Festival's Kick-Off Event, and the Family & Children's Service presentation of the documentary Reject.  While you're planning your next week at the movies, be sure to catch City of Gold soon.
