DUE TO THE POPULARITY OF OUR CURRENT SLATE OF AWARD WINNING MOVIES, EXPECT LONG LINES.
WE ADVISE ARRIVING 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO SHOWTIME.

Greetings Cinemapolitans!

Oscar night is just two weeks away - do you have your tickets for our annual "And the Winner Is..." Gala event? If you need to catch up on all of the nominated films in our current slate, there's still time. We're also adding two new nominees to the mix this Friday:
  • Documentarian Raoul Peck brings the powerful and timely words of James Baldwin to the screen with I Am Not Your Negro. Nominated for best documentary, the film combines text from Baldwin's unfinished novel Remember This House with archival footage of the author and strikingly relevant images from our nation's continuing struggles with race relations. A.O. Scott of the NY Times calls it a "thrilling introduction to his work, a remedial course in American history, and an advanced seminar in racial politics — a concise, roughly 90-minute movie with the scope and impact of a 10-hour mini-series or a literary doorstop. It is not an easy or a consoling movie, but it is the opposite of bitter or despairing."

  • Nominated for best foreign language film, Maren Ade's Toni Erdmann is a uniquely German comedy about a father and daughter attempting—and often failing—to reconnect. This one also gets the NY Times Critics' Pick seal of approval, with A.O. Scott calling it  "most simply but also most elusively, a sweet and thorny tale of father-daughter bonding with a finely honed edge of generational conflict, propelled by two extraordinarily natural, utterly fearless performances."
On top of six great films, we also have some special screenings thrown in for good measure coming up in the next week:

The Family Classics Picture Show continues its 3rd year on Sunday, February 19th at 2pm with a screening of African Queen.

Discounted tickets for these special Sunday events are just $3 for adults, $2 for kids, or $10 for an entire family. The Family Classics Picture Show at Cinemapolis is made possible by lead sponsor The Ainslie Reilly Group at Morgan Stanley, with additional support from Mama Goose.

Amadeus screens at Cinemapolis on Thursday, February 23rd at 6:30 pm and again on Saturday, February 25th at 1:30 pm..
