Subject: 🎥 Cinemapolis Weekly Updates for June 16, 2021 - The Big Screen is BACK 6/25! 🎥

ADVANCE TICKETS  â€˘ Merchandise  â€˘ Donations

Greetings, Cinemapolitans,

As restrictions on public gatherings continue to be lifted, it’s time for Cinemapolis to get back into the movie business. The staff and I are excited to see our Cinemapolitans returning to safely enjoy movies the way they were meant to be seen—on the big screen!

We're celebrating Cinema Week 2021 with an exciting return to public screenings beginning on Friday, June 25! Regularly scheduled screenings will take place Thursday through Sunday throughout the summer.

We have CinemaSafe approved protocols in place to ensure that it’s a safe return to the movies for everyone involved. Following CDC guidelines for public gatherings, masks are still required for all staff and for patrons until they’re seated and enjoying our famous Cinemapolis popcorn in their screening room.

Seating capacity in each auditorium will be limited to allow you to sufficiently distance your party from other guests, and showtimes will be spaced further apart so we’ll have shorter, more distanced lines at concessions. Due to these limited capacities and showtimes, we expect screenings to sell out, so you should purchase tickets in advance online.

We understand that some fans of the cinema may still be staying away from crowds for a while, so our Virtual Cinema platform will keep rolling with new titles through the summer.

OPENING FRIDAY, JUNE 25

Over a 70+ year career, Rita Moreno defied both her humble upbringing and relentless racism to become a celebrated and beloved actor, one of the rare EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) Award Winners of our time. Born into poverty on a Puerto Rican farm, Moreno and her seamstress mother immigrated to New York City when Moreno was five years old. After studying dance and performing on Broadway, Moreno was cast as any ethnic minority the Hollywood studios needed filled, be it Polynesian, Native American or Egyptian. Despite becoming the first Latina actress to win an Academy Award for her role as Anita in “West Side Story” (1961), the studios continued to offer Moreno lesser roles as stereotypical ethnic minorities, ignoring her proven talent.

RITA MORENO: JUST A GIRL WHO DECIDED TO GO FOR IT illuminates the humor and the grace of Moreno, as well as lesser-known struggles faced on her path to stardom, including pernicious Hollywood sexism and abuse, a toxic relationship with Marlon Brando, and serious depression a year before she emerged an Oscar winner. Moreno’s talent and resilience triumphed over adversity, as she broke barriers, fought for representation and forged the path for new generations of artists.

When Alexis (Félix Lefebvre) capsizes off the coast of Normandy, David (Benjamin Voisin) comes to the rescue and soon opens the younger boy’s eyes to a new horizon of friendship, art, and sexual bliss. David’s worldly demeanor and Jewish heritage deliver an ardent jolt to Alexis’s traditional, working-class upbringing. After Alexis begins working at the seaside shop owned by David’s mother (Valeria Bruni Tedeschi), the two lovers steal every possible moment for a fugitive kiss, a motorcycle ride, or a trip to the cinema. Their relationship is soon rocked by a host of challenges, including an unexpected sexual rival (Philippine Velge) and a romantic oath that transcends life itself.

Adapted by François Ozon from Aidan Chambers’s groundbreaking LGBT young adult novel Dance on My Grave, Summer of 85 is a sexy, nostalgic reverie of first love and its consequences from one of France’s most versatile filmmakers. Their summer fling lasts just six weeks, but casts a shadow over a lifetime.

Deep in the forests of Piedmont, Italy, a handful of men, seventy or eighty years young, hunt for the rare and expensive white Alba truffle—which to date has resisted all of modern science’s efforts at cultivation. They’re guided by a secret culture and training passed down through generations, as well as by the noses of their cherished and expertly-trained dogs. They live a simpler, slower way of life, in harmony with their loyal animals and their picture-perfect land, seemingly straight out of a fairy tale. They’re untethered to cell phone screens or the Internet, opting instead to make their food and drink by hand and prioritizing in-person connections and community.

The demand for white truffles increases year after year, even as the supply decreases. As a result of climate change, deforestation, and the lack of young people taking up the mantle, the truffle hunters’ secrets are more coveted than ever. However, as it soon becomes clear, these ageing men may just hold something much more valuable than even this prized delicacy: the secret to a rich and meaningful life.
