Subject: 🎥 Cinemapolis - Showtimes & Openings for 9/24 🎥

Greetings, Cinemapolitans,

We're welcoming autumn with the return of the Cine con Cultura Latinx American Film Festival, so mark your calendars for next Tuesday, September 28 at 7PM for the very special Ithaca premiere of Birthright, the new documentary that follows Miami-bred electro-pop musicians, Afrobeta, as they are invited to perform in Havana, Cuba. The duo’s desire to visit their parents’ homeland ignites a surreal journey into who they are, where they come from and what being Cuban really means.

We're excited to welcome Afrobeta for a post-show Q & A moderated by Ben Ortiz (a/k/a DJ ha-MEEN). Advance tickets recommended for this one night only event!

We have TWO new additions to our in theater slate this weekend, so you'll want to get in before then to catch The Lost Leonardo. It has its final screenings on Thursday, September 23rd!

OPENING FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 24

Argentina, the late 1970s. Private banker Yvan (Fabrizio Rongione) arrives from Geneva with his wife Ines (Stéphanie Cléau) to replace a colleague who has mysteriously disappeared in military-ruled Buenos Aires. Moving through the smoke-filled lounges and lush gardens of a society under intense surveillance, he finds himself untangling a sinister web of colonialism, high finance, and a nation’s “Dirty War.”

In the 1970s, Tammy Faye Bakker and her husband, Jim, rise from humble beginnings to create the world’s largest religious broadcasting network and theme park. Tammy Faye becomes legendary for her indelible eyelashes, her idiosyncratic singing, and her eagerness to embrace people from all walks of life. However, financial improprieties, scheming rivals and a scandal soon threaten to topple their carefully constructed empire.

ITHACA FANTASTIK PRESENTS:

THE SUMMER OF SLEAZE

Seven Summer Saturday Nights featuring
Repertory Titles from the Vaults!

109 min, R

The sci-fi/horror epic that 1979 couldn’t handle. An intergalactic warrior joins a cosmic Christ figure in battle against a demonic eight-year-old girl and her pet hawk, while the fate of the universe hangs in the balance!

One of the holiest of all Holyfuckingshits, THE VISITOR is a wonderful mishmash of THE OMEN, THE BIRDS, ROSEMARY’S BABY, STAR WARS and CLOSE ENCOUNTERS — but even that barely hints at the fervor with which director Giulio Paradisi hurls his cast (John Huston, Glenn Ford, Shelley Winters, Franco Nero, Lance Henriksen and, yes, even Sam Peckinpah) into the cinematic void.

Just when you think you’ve nailed down which direction the film’s heading in, THE VISITOR shatters your notion of the time-space continuum with a blackhearted blowout of interplanetary possession, telekinetic avian assault, exploding basketballs and ecclesiastical laserstorms. If you miss out on this one, then you have as much regard for cinema as you do for a discarded toenail clipping.
