Subject: 🎥 Cinemapolis Recommends - Virtual Cinema Listings for Jan 13, 2021 🎥

Greetings, Cinemapolitans,

Another weekend is on the way with three new titles arriving on our virtual cinema platform. Take a break from the doom scrolling and immerse yourself in some great cinema. From compelling documentaries to touching dramas from around the world, we're devoted to celebrating film's unique power to help us better understand ourselves and each other.

There's plenty of evidence in the news about what can divide us. Pick a few films from our catalog and be reminded of the things that bring us together. Someday soon, we'll come together inside the cinema to do the same.

As always, the full listing of all current and upcoming virtual films, including those titles ending tomorrow, can be found on our Virtual Cinema page.

MY LITTLE SISTER

“Superb performances by Nina Hoss and Lars Eidinger ground this moving, unfussy Swiss drama of twin siblings whose bond is tested by leukemia.”

Lisa, once a brilliant playwright, no longer writes. She lives with her family in Switzerland, but her heart remains in Berlin, beating in time with that of her twin brother Sven, the famous theatre actor. Since Sven has been suffering from an aggressive type of leukaemia, the relationship between them has become even closer.

Lisa does not want to accept this blow of fate, she does everything in her power to bring Sven back on stage. For her soulmate she neglects everything else and even risks losing her husband. Her marriage goes awry, but Lisa only has eyes for her brother, who reflects her deepest longings and awakens in her the desire to be creative, to feel alive again.

ROCK CAMP: THE MOVIE

ROCK CAMP SWEEPSTAKES!

All virtual attendees can enter to win a Rock Star VIP Prize Package.

Summer camp meets Spinal Tap as we journey to Rock’ n’ Roll Fantasy Camp, where dreamers from across America and around the world gather to shred with their heroes – and learn to rock like the legends.

Rock Camp is an institution and cultural phenomenon that has been going on in Los Angeles, New York, and other cities since 1996. Rock Camp is the brainchild of music producer David Fishof. It boasts a jaw-dropping array of rock star “counselors” that include Roger Daltrey, Alice Cooper, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, Nancy Wilson, Joe Perry, Jeff Beck, Slash, and countless other rock legends.

The counselors teach, inspire, and jam with the campers over four days. Each Rock Camp concludes with all of the counselors and their respective campers performing together.

SOME KIND OF HEAVEN

“Those nostalgic for the fond portraits of eccentric Americana in Errol Morris’ early work – and pretty much everyone else – will be delighted by “Some Kind of Heaven."

With Some Kind of Heaven, first-time feature director Lance Oppenheim cracks the manicured facade of The Villages, America’s largest retirement community – a massive, self-contained utopia located in Central Florida. Behind the gates of this palm tree-lined fantasyland, Some Kind of Heaven invests in the dreams and desires of a small group of Villages residents – and one interloper – who are unable to find happiness within the community’s pre-packaged paradise.

With strikingly composed cinematography, this candy-colored documentary offers a tender and surreal look at the never-ending quest for finding meaning and love in life’s final act.

RICH SZANYI: 1945 - 2020

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of Rich Szanyi's passing on December 27th, 2020. Nearly 35 years after launching a basement screening room in downtown Ithaca, our cinema's co-founder leaves behind an indelible legacy of passion for film that will live on in the Ithaca community for decades to come. Our sympathies and love go out to his partner in business and in life, Lynne Cohen.

We encourage Cinemapolitans to share your favorite memories of Rich on the tribute page on our website.

Plans for a post-COVID memorial service at the cinema are in the works.

CONTINUING ON VIRTUAL CINEMA

Many thanks to all who made a year-end contribution to the Cinemapolis Annual Fund. We exceeded our 2020 fundraising goal, and your support will help us make it through the winter. With COVID numbers in our region again on the rise, we will continue to stay closed until it is safe for you and our staff to once again enjoy cinematic experiences together in the heart of downtown Ithaca.

Hope to see you at the movies again soon!
