Greetings Cinemapolitans!

An exciting weekend is on the way with two new films, but first, this Thursday, we have TWO very special events.

National Theatre Live returns with the remarkable adaptation of Philip Pullman's The Book of Dust. Set twelve years before the epic His Dark Materials trilogy, this gripping adaptation revisits Philip Pullman’s fantastical world in which waters are rising and storms are brewing. Captured live from London's Bridge Theatre, The Book of Dust screens on Thursday, April 21 at 6:30 pm and again on Saturday, April 23 at 1:30 pm.

Also on Thursday, we're honored to be part of renowned photographer James Balog's visit to Ithaca as an A.D. White Professor-at-Large (ADW-PAL). In addition to events on the Cornell campus and at the Museum of the Earth, James will be here at Cinemapolis for a one night only screening of The Human Element. In the film, he explores the intersection of humanity and the rest of nature, documenting the increasing rates of animal extinctions and catastrophic wildfires, floods, and storms. The film screens on Thursday, April 21 at 7 pm, immediately followed by a live Q & A with James Balog.

Meanwhile, it's another premiere weekend, so you should get in soon to catch Cow, Gagarine, Mothering Sunday, The Outfit, and X. They have their final screenings this week!

OPENING FRIDAY, APRIL 22

Late on a cold night somewhere in the U.S., teenage Casey (Anna Cobb in her feature debut) sits alone in her attic bedroom, scrolling the internet under the glow-in-the-dark stars and black-light posters that blanket the ceiling. She has finally decided to take the World’s Fair Challenge, an online role-playing horror game, and embrace the uncertainty it promises.

After the initiation, she documents the changes that may or may not be happening to her, adding her experiences to the shuffle of online clips available for the world to see. As she begins to lose herself between dream and reality, a mysterious figure reaches out, claiming to see something special in her uploads.
