Local ATV Club Hosting Benefit Concert for Local Schools

Ridgeview Riders ATV Club will present an outdoor concert to benefit Floyd County Public Schools on Saturday, June 21 from 2pm to 10pm at Chantilly Farm in Floyd.

The one day event will feature two nationally known Bluegrass artists, Seldom Scene and Sierra Hull, along with local favorites The Deer Run Drifters, Ashlee Blankenship, and Gravel Road.

“The annual String and Pig Pickin’ was held in the parking lot at the Floyd Moose Lodge for the first two years and this year we’ve decided to add some nationally prominent bands and made the choice to move the event to Chantilly Farm which gives us more space to expand the event,” commented Anthony Simpkins, the show’s lead organizer.

Sierra Hull has made her mark on the acoustic music scene since first appearing at age 13 with Alison Krauss on the Grand Ole Opry. Hull’s vocal and instrumental skills have won her countless fans from all over the country and have earned praise from music industry insiders with 6 International Bluegrass Association Mandolin Player of the Year nominations.

Seldom Scene is currently celebrating more than 40 years in the music business and while the lineup of band members has changed over the years, their fan base has continued to expand. In April, the band released their latest album in partnership with the Smithsonian Folkways Project that features fresh interpretations of 16 of the band’s most well regarded songs.

“We really feel blessed to be working with amazing talent like Seldom Scene and Sierra Hull on this benefit show. In light of the difficult times we are having with school funding in Floyd County, we hope that everyone will come out and show their support for our local schools by attending the show,” commented Simpkins.

Concessions will be available from vendors throughout the day. An enclosed beer garden will be available on-site for those over the age of 21.

Net proceeds from the show will be donated to Floyd County Public Schools.

Attendees are asked to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating and the event will be held rain or shine. No pets will be allowed.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the show. Kids under 12 will be admitted for free. Advance tickets are available online at www.chantillyfarm.com/tickets or may be purchased at the Floyd Country Store.
