Floyd Livestock and County Fair This Saturday at Chantilly Farm

The Floyd County Farm Bureau Women's Committee will host their annual Floyd Livestock and County Fair this coming Saturday, September 19, from 10am until 7pm at Chantilly Farm in Floyd and we hope to see you there!

In past years the event was held on the grounds of the county extension office, but after realizing the need for additional space, organizers chose to partner with Chantilly Farm in an effort to allow the event to grow in future years.

“Our fair began at the Floyd Recreation Park—went to the Virginia Cooperative Extension parking lot, and now in our 9th year we’re excited to have the opportunity to host the fair at Chantilly Farm”, said Vickie Spangler, one of the event’s organizers and member of the Floyd County Farm Bureau Women's Committee.

With acres of additional space, the event will feature a variety of new activities and exhibits are being expanded. In anticipation of the move, organizers have appropriately chosen a theme for this year’s event, ‘Bringin’ it Back to the Farm’.

“Having worked with organizing the fair over the past 8 years, I have seen it grow and have enjoyed watching children, parents, friends, and grandparents learn from the activities provided at the fair. Parking and exhibit space has been challenging in the past, but the change in venue will solve so many of those logistical problems,” commented Betty Blackwell, Floyd County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee chairman.

A variety of activities have been planned for the one day event, including an Ag-Olympics, cake walks and contests, livestock shows, educational exhibits, children’s activities, live music, a 'mutton bustin' competition, horseback riding, and more. Local vendors have come on board to sell agricultural and heritage related items throughout the day as well.

“Having a county fair has always been something I have felt would be wonderful for our county. The fair is such a wonderful opportunity to involve our youth in activities such as animal showmanship, producing and displaying agricultural produce they have raised, or presenting crafts they’ve created,” added Spangler.

Chantilly Farm's newly expanded camping facilities will be available to those interested in spending the weekend with family or friends and the new barn-style facility at Chantilly Farm will serve as exhibit space for the fair. Food and beverage will be available on-site throughout the day.

Admission will be $5 for adults, $3 for children 7-17, and no admission for children 6 and younger. Parking for the event will be free.

Cross Country Meet Set for October 14 at Chantilly Farm

In an effort to find a suitable outdoor space to host a regional cross country competition, Floyd County High School has chosen Chantilly Farm as the new venue to host their Buffalo Stampede cross country meet on Wednesday, October 14.

Mark Carper, formerly of Carroll County Schools and a new Art Teacher and Cross Country Coach at Floyd County High School, will act as the lead coordinator for the event.

"I am very excited about having Chantilly Farm as our new cross country venue. It is beautiful, scenic and spectator friendly. The course itself will be challenging, but not overly so," Carper commented.

Four categories of races are being planned that will include middle school, junior varsity, varsity girls, and varsity boys. Schools from around the region will be invited to participate.

"We're really excited to welcome the Floyd County High School Cross Country meet to Chantilly Farm and look forward to helping them further develop their regional meet into an event that all of the students can take pride in," said Dee Wallace of Chantilly Farm.

The Floyd Country Store annex at Chantilly Farm will be open during the event serving hot dogs, ice cream, beverages and light snacks. Chantilly Farm is located at 2697 Franklin Pike in Floyd.
