Dear Friends,
Last week the world lost Shireen Abu Akleh - a journalist who devoted her life to sharing the reality from the front line of the occupied territories. Shireen was more than a reporter - she was a mentor to a great many, and had an innate ability to share stories and news that captured the essence of the Palestinian struggle over the decades. Her death is another painful reminder of the urgency to stop the violence, end the occupation, and bring dignity and justice to the region.
We must examine the roots of the conflict in order to make sense of today's reality, and to understand that for Palestinians, the events of 1948 are very much ongoing and present. The Nakba, which we commemorate today, is a point in history to be openly discussed and spoken about, not just as a historical event of the past, but one which continues today.
