Subject: Joint Nakba Day Ceremony - Join Us

Dear Friends,

In our part of the world, things are rarely easy or straightforward, and one person's truth is another’s fiction. This is our reality, and in the pursuit of peace, we must confront uncomfortable pasts so that we can create a better future. Nakba Day has long been a taboo subject for Israeli society, and a day of mourning for Palestinians. Translated from Arabic as ‘the Catastrophe’, the events of 1948 are central to Palestinians’ collective memory and to the history of our wider conflict.

The Joint Nakba Day Ceremony, hosted by Combatants for Peace on May 15th, brings together Palestinians, Israelis, and the international community to remember, honor and acknowledge the Nakba, when more than half a million Palestinians were displaced from their homes.

The ceremony will navigate across the past, present, and future. While the past cannot be undone, our acknowledgement and understanding of it in the present can be a source of healing - and can lay the groundwork for creating a different future, free of occupation, violence, and suffering.

Join us with an open heart and mind and hear from Palestinians and Israelis who will deliver deeply personal testimonies and share their memories, hardships, and hopes for the future.
