Subject: A Weekend of Co-Resistance

Dear Friend,

Thank you so much for the overwhelming response to our urgent appeal to protect Palestinian landowners, activists and staff during the olive harvest. Thanks to your generosity, we can now purchase new helmets and protective equipment to help keep our teams safer on the ground throughout the harvest season.

On Friday, our activists returned to an olive grove in the Bethlehem area, where our two previous attempts to harvest had been blocked by settlers and the Israeli army. This time, despite repeated attempts by Israeli forces to remove us, we managed to harvest together for two hours, filling six sacks of olives. At one point, around ten armed soldiers, part of a force of approximately 50 deployed to the area, stood facing our group as Palestinian activists sang loudly and joyfully.

It was a deeply powerful moment of nonviolent resistance, and a reminder of why we continue this work. While armed soldiers stood over us, we continued to sing, harvest and assert the family's right to access its own land. For a family that has been prevented from harvesting its olives for three years, these six sacks represent far more than the harvest itself. They are a testament to the determination of Palestinians and Israelis working together to resist displacement and defend the right of Palestinian families to remain on their land.

While we were harvesting together on Friday, deeply alarming developments were unfolding elsewhere in the West Bank. Following the killing of two Israeli soldiers near Hebron on 23 October, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced plans to evacuate an entire Palestinian neighborhood and apply the same military approach used in Jenin. According to local reports, approximately 250 Palestinian families have already been evacuated from their homes, and demolitions have begun.

Combatants for Peace condemns all forms of violence, including the killing of the two soldiers. We are also clear that the actions of two individuals cannot justify the collective punishment of an entire community. These measures are part of a broader pattern of forced displacement, home demolitions and settler and state violence that is threatening Palestinian communities across the West Bank.

In response, we submitted an urgent letter to the European Union and the British government, calling for targeted sanctions against Defense Minister Israel Katz and immediate international intervention to prevent further displacement and destruction. This follows an earlier request submitted in July and reflects our deep concern that statements of condemnation and symbolic gestures are no longer enough.

We are calling on governments and international institutions to use their diplomatic and economic influence to prevent collective punishment, protect Palestinian civilians and ensure accountability. We also urge our supporters to contact their elected representatives and demand meaningful action before more families are forced from their homes.

Over the coming weeks, our team will continue working together across the West Bank, accompanying farmers to their land and doing everything we can to help them complete the olive harvest safely. Through the Protect the Harvest Coalition, we will also welcome international visitors, expanding this effort beyond our local community and bringing greater international attention and presence to areas threatened by intense violence and intimidation.

As Israel heads to the polls tomorrow, we hold on to the hope that change is possible. Whatever the outcome, we know that a different future will not be built through politics alone, but through the courage and determination of people choosing to work together, even in the most desperate circumstances. We see that possibility every time Israelis and Palestinians work together, protect one another and show that there is another way.
