Now Is the Time to Stand Up and Be Counted! We Need Your Help!
For nearly twenty-five years, the International Healing Foundation has helped thousands of individuals, families, churches, and communities struggling with homosexuality and sexual orientation through our therapy, healing seminars, educational materials, and counselor training programs.
But now, our ability to help young people is being threatened by gay activists, who are advancing legislation in many states, including Maryland, Washington, DC, and Virginia, to take away the rights of minors to receive therapy to overcome unwanted same-sex attraction (SSA). In the next two months, these legislatures will hold committee hearings where members of the public are invited to come testify, either for or against, therapy for minors who seek to overcome unwanted SSA.Anti-ex-gay extremists are well funded, and fly in gay activists, medical and mental health professionals, and other “expert” speakers for the sole purpose of defaming our work and deceiving lawmakers. These “experts” ignore and minimize the evidence that shows people can change and use their positions as bully pulpits to disparage our work. They also recruit young gay activists and coach them how to testify, provide them with talking points, and even encourage them to exaggerate any unfavorable experience with a counselor who they might have seen regarding sexual orientation. We use the word “might” in this context, because last year, a young transgender activist testified in New Jersey and said she was sent to a “conversion therapy torture camp” in 1997 that used electroshock and other inhumane, aversive techniques to turn her straight. After investigating these claims with the Ohio Secretary of State and Attorney General’s office, we discovered that her entire story was a fraud, taken out of a 1999 movie starring drag queen Ru Paul! Sadly, the mainstream media never reported these facts, and New Jersey lawmakers were deceived by this story and other factually dubious accounts, passed the legislation into law, and joined California as the second state to prohibit minors from pursuing sexual orientation change effort therapy. We Need Your Help!
If you are a current or former client, parent of a current or former client, or community member that has benefited from our healing seminars, parent weekend retreats, or educational programs, we need your help. We are looking for supporters to stand with us in February and March and testify in front of the legislatures in Maryland, Virginia, and/or Washington, DC. Telling your story of how you have been helped can convince lawmakers to vote against this destructive legislation that would take our first amendment freedoms away, and ensure that many more parents and children can get the help they desperately need. If you are not able to appear in person, you can also send a written testimony to submit as evidence, which would also be powerful.
