EX-GLBT Advocacy Organizations Launch 2nd Annual Awareness Month Aimed at Increasing Education and Support

Washington, D.C. – Voice of the Voiceless (VoV) announced today the start of the Second Annual Ex-Gay Awareness Month, an educational campaign being held throughout the month of September, which will culminate with the 2nd Annual Ex-Gay Awareness Conference, October 3-4 in Washington, D.C.

This is the second year VoV has partnered with Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays (PFOX) and Equality And Justice For All to highlight issues, concerns, and goals of organizations working to help assist ex-gays, individuals with unwanted same-sex attractions, and their families.

In 2014, the advocacy work of these three organizations exposed the need for reform in Virginia public universities when two former homosexuals made seven under cover visits to the university’s LGBTQ resource centers, documenting discrimination, biased, and medically inaccurate counseling. The investigation resulted in the groundbreaking Campus Climate Report: Virginia LGBTQ Resource Centers an ‘Unsafe Zone’ for Students with Unwanted Same-Sex Attractions.

Additionally, their successful campaign, #Therapy Equality, resulted in the defeat of fourteen bills in state legislatures across the United States where gay activists have been trying to shut down clients’ rights and freedom of choice for minors who experience unwanted same-sex attractions and seek sexual orientation change.

“Our main goal in this observance is to ensure that the many Americans who identify as former homosexuals, and their families, know that in the desert of gay social affirmation, there is an oasis of hope for them,” said VoV Vice President Pastor DL Foster.

A conference and celebration on October 4th featuring former US Ambassador Alan Keyes as the keynote speaker will highlight the many achievements of ex-gays, including Christian singer/songwriter Dennis Jernigan, who will receive the 2014 Courage Award for Former Homosexuals. Other speakers include Matt Barber, Vice President of Liberty Counsel, Peter Sprigg of the Family Research Council, and a special appearance by American Family Radio personality and former Fox News contributor, Sandy Rios, who will accept the 2014 Friend of Ex-Gays Freedom Award.

This year’s conference will build upon these successful campaigns and cast a vision for 2015 and beyond.
