American Family Radio Host Sandy Rios to Receive 2014 Ex-Gay Freedom Award
Pro-Family Advocate to Address Ex-Gay Conference in Washington, DC on October 4

Washington, D.C. – Voice of the Voiceless (VoV) is excited to announce that Sandy Rios, American Family Radio (AFR) talk show host and former FOX News contributor, will accept the 2014 Ex-Gay Awareness Freedom Award when she addresses the Second Annual Ex-Gay Awareness Conference, which is being hosted by VoV, Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays (PFOX), and Equality And Justice For All on October 3-4, 2014 in Washington, D.C.

In addition to hosting her radio show, Sandy Rios in the Morning on AFR Talk Radio, Rios is Vice-President of Family-Pac Federal, which defends traditional values. She is also the former President of Concerned Women for America, the nation's largest public policy women's organization, and the former President of the Culture Campaign.

“We're thrilled to honor Sandy Rios,” commented Christopher Doyle, President and Co-Founder of VoV. “She is a powerful voice and a leader in defending former homosexuals. We especially want to recognize Ms. Rios for her honest journalism relating to homosexuality. Despite the onslaught of biased-based criticism of her work, Rios has relentlessly brought to light many truths that the ultra-liberal press has conveniently ignored, deliberately sidestepped, shamelessly distorted, or even squelched.”

In 2013, Rios broke the story of discrimination towards students with unwanted same-sex attractions (SSA) in Virginia university LGBTQ resource centers, where two former homosexuals from VoV went undercover to expose the biased counseling and inadequate resources for ex-gay identified college students in Virginia’s publicly funded universities. She was also instrumental in exposing transgender activist Brielle Goldani, who gave fraudulent testimony in front of the New Jersey State Senate in the effort to ban therapy for minors seeking to overcome unwanted SSA. As a result, an investigation revealed that Goldani lifted her entire story about being sent to the “conversion therapy torture” camp ‘True Directions’ from a 1999 movie starting drag queen Ru Paul.

Throughout her career, Sandy Rios has been recognized by a number of organizations. In 2005, she was given the Henry Hyde Leadership Award, and in 2010, the National Religious Broadcasters named her Radio Personality of the Year. Rios was also honored as an Angel Award recipient, and she has received seven Silver Microphone Awards to her credit.

“We couldn't have chosen a more worthy person to honor. Sandy has been an open, welcoming, and supportive friend to the EX-LGBT community and our families, using her platform, influence, and resources to help us advance the message of freedom, said Pastor DL Foster of Atlanta, GA, Co-Founder and Vice President of VoV. It is truly an honor for us to say thank you to her for such an inspirational life.
