Jack Petranker to give online talk at Harvard University: register now

Jack Petranker, founder and Senior Teacher at CCI, will be making a trip to the East Coast in early March to present three talks. The first two, to be given at the Harvard Divinity School (March 7) and Brown University’s Contemplative Studies Program (March 12) will be on the theme “Meditation in Fractured Times.” Jack will discuss the way that the TSK teachings are especially well-suited to our times, when our attention is hurled from one thing to the next and the kind of focused awareness called for in traditional meditation is increasingly difficult to come by.

The Harvard talk will be livestreamed via Zoom on Thurs, March 7th, 12-1:15PM EST (9 am Pacific). You may register to attend here:

The third talk will be presented at the annual Meeting of the American Comparative Literature Association, held this year in Montreal from March 14-17. The talk will be part of a panel on Alternative Cosmologies of Time, and is titled “The Time Between: a Tibetan Lama Challenges the Temporal Primacy of Narrative.” It will introduce Tarthang Tulku’s understanding of a time more fundamental than the linear passage from past to present to future.

The Power of Not Knowing: Disrupting the Adversarial Model

Presented by Morgan Wells
Thursday, March 28, 4:00 pm Pacific

Many of our legal systems in the United States are centered on conflict between two opposing sides. Whether it is the adversarial model of justice or the two-party political system, we have adopted mechanisms for making decisions that assume the best outcome will emerge from the clash of two conflicting stories. But what are the consequences of relying on a system of justice that prioritizes the strength of told stories over the search for truth and knowledge? This talk will discuss how not-knowing can be a vehicle for reconciliation and healing. Embracing the unknown future, we can open a door to new possibilities outside the pre-defined positions of dueling adversaries.

Morgan Wells (she/her) is the Executive Director of Center for Creative Inquiry and a Professor of Practice at University of California College of the Law, San Francisco.

Being Fully Present
Retreat led by Jack Petranker and Ignacio Ercole

June 14-16, 2024 at Ratna Ling Retreat Center

In this retreat, we explore ways to be fully present with the now. We will draw on practices that engage body, mind, and spirit. We first ground ourselves in our body, work with our breathing, explore our senses of hearing and seeing, and then identify the stories we are telling ourselves. We begin to analyze the thoughts and emotions that build up around these stories.

Book before March 15th to receive the early bird price of $750.
