Saints of August, Pray for Us!
Summer is coming to a close soon, and school is just around the corner. This new season is full of opportunities to grow in faith and ask the saints for aid in our journey!
St. Dominic de Guzman Rustic Wood Plaque
St. Dominic was born to a noble family in a small Spanish town. His feast day is August 8th.
He grew up with a deeply faithful family, himself becoming ordained at twenty-four. He preached in France, and went on to found the Dominican Order.
St. Rose was born one of eleven children in Lima, Peru. Her feast day is August 23rd.
When she was young, St. Rose greatly admired St. Catherine of Siena, fasting multiple times a week and dedicating herself to prayer and solitude. She became a Lay Dominican, selling flowers and lace so she could care for the poor.
St. Lawrence was a deacon of the early church in Rome. His feast day is August 10th.
When a Roman official demanded he surrender the treasures of the church, St. Lawrence brought forth the poor and ailing that the church supported, saying "These are the treasures of the church."
Born Edith Stein, St. Teresa Benedicta was a Jewish-German convert. Her feast day is August 9th.
As a teenager, she stopped believing in God. In her thirties, she read the autobiography of St. Teresa of Avila, and was moved to convert to Catholicism. She served as a nurse in the second World War.
