Subject: Summer retrofit and decarbonisation news! 🌞

Decarbonise your home this summer...

As the weather improves, many people take advantage of the good conditions for home retrofit work. Whether you are undertaking a deep retrofit or some DIY improvements, we have been working to make retrofit easier and more accessible for everyone.

Our Energy Systems team have been working with the Linux Foundation Energy on tools to manage a flexible energy system, where a greater proportion of our energy comes from renewable sources. We are now joining forces as a community partner in the LFEnergy Summit 2023: Deep Decarbonisation this week in Paris.

Our sister Co-operative, People Powered Retrofit are currently carrying out research into the financing of retrofit projects, and they need your help! If you have undertaken a home retrofit or intend to, please take a look at their survey and share your thoughts.

Of course, many other projects and activities are underway, and we hope to share more about these over the rest of the summer!

LFEnergy Summit 2023 - Deep Decarbonisation

We're delighted to be a community partner with the Linux Foundation Energy initiative on their 2023 Deep Decarbonisation Summit in Paris.

Taking place between 1 - 2 June, virtual tickets are only $25 for both days, and the summit will showcase the best in open source solutions for rapid decarbonisation.

Jonathan Atkinson at REScoop Spring Gathering

Carbon Co-op's Jonathan Atkinson attended the REScoop AGM and Spring Gathering in Athens this month. Returning overland he put together some of his thoughts on key discussions at the gathering. Looking at the Community Energy landscape across Europe, Jonathan identified some key areas where the UK needs to catch-up and potential inspiration from our fellow European co-operatives.

Financing your retrofit

Carbon Co-op and People Powered Retrofit are currently undertaking research into retrofit finance as part of a project in partnership with Manchester based credit unions and Glasgow-based Loco Homes, and are looking for participants to complete their survey.

The survey is for those who intend to complete, or have already completed, some form of retrofit on their homes and will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. We’re looking for your views to help us deliver retrofit to more people across the UK.

What we are reading...

Who applies for energy grants?

Fascinating research highlighting the 'social relations' aspect to the take-up of energy related grants.

This phenomenon is why we've long advocated and demonstrated a Community Based Social Marketing approach to the role out of new energy efficiency services and schemes.

In the community

External wall finish

Where external wall insulation might not be immediately possible, community members discuss potential options that might exist, as well as limitations to these works.
