Carbon Co-op at COP26 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Hi Friend,

Over the next few weeks global leaders and scientists, and campaigners will be gathering in Glasgow for the UNFCCC COP26. The hope is that countries will agree to improve their national targets in order to limit the worst impacts of the climate crisis. We will be taking part in several events around the COP sharing our experience of making real impacts in addressing our home carbon emissions. These events will be available online for anyone to join, so we hope to see you there!

There is just over a month left in our People Powered Retrofit share offer and we have reached 57% of our goal, over £311,000. To have the biggest impact possible we will need to reach our target of £550,000. So if you think you might want to invest, now is the time. Head over to our investment page on Ethex to learn more.

We are also excited to be launching a new heat pump challenge for Carbon Co-op members. This will give you the chance to find out if your home is 'heat pump ready', without having to buy any expensive new kit, using your existing gas boiler. We will even give you an incentive to take part.

Heat pump challenge

Take the Heat Pump Challenge this Winter!

Carbon Co-op is recruiting households with gas heating to take part in the 'Heat Pump Challenge'. During the challenge we will ask you to turn down the flow/radiator temperature on their gas boilers to simulate the operation of a heat pump and to help us understand the suitability of your home for a heat pump. This will help us develop understanding of heat pumps and how they operate and the impact they will have in our homes.

We are giving away a year of access to PowerShaper Monitor and £100 in vouchers to thank people for taking part. A subset of participants will also be selected for enhanced temperature/humidity monitoring and/or a free heat pump assessment (worth around £300).

Members have the opportunity to sign up now before the public launch in November. We have a limited number of spaces so get your application in soon!

New toolkit for councils

On the eve of COP26, The Centre for Local Economic Strategies (CLES) and Carbon Co-op have released a toolkit showcasing the vital role that councils play in addressing the climate emergency in a way that generates the greatest benefit for communities.

The work represents a “how to” for councils wanting to deliver greener cost-effective energy for communities. Case studies from across the UK show the vital role that many councils and their partners are already playing in delivering energy transition projects, while tools and resources in the toolkit will help all local authorities, no matter their size or starting point, to develop solutions that work for their place.
