Subject: What we have been up to before new year!🎄

Hi Friend,

As we approach the Christmas period, we are continuing to share new resources from a range of projects. With new resources for tenants with heat pumps as well as resident liaison officers with social housing providers.

We also have an upcoming event for householders with battery systems looking at how these can be optimised to maximum advantage over the winter period. Don't forget to check out the final outputs and roundup of resources from the Calderdale Retrofit Challenge project.

The Carbon Co-op team wish everyone a warm and cosy Christmas break. We are grateful for your continued support that makes our work possible. We look forward to sharing our new work and achievements with you in 2026.

Celebrating the end of the Innovate UK: Calderdale Retrofit Challenge project

We recently completed the Calderdale Retrofit Challenge project! Funded by Innovate UK over a period of two years the project aimed to better understand the significant challenge of decarbonising Calderdale's housing stock. The project paid particular focus on the difficult to decarbonise, pre-1919 stone terraces that can be complex and expensive to retrofit.

Key outputs of the project include:

  • The final report,

  • The citizens' jury case study,

  • The PPR-authored guide on retrofit archetypes.

Learn more about the project, the approaches and measures that they took to create a strong foundation for area based retrofit delivery in Calderdale.

New toolkit for Social Housing: Resident Liaison Officer

We’re excited to launch our resident liaison officer (RLO) Toolkit, designed to help housing providers build engagement strategies that work - and make them easy to put into practice.

Retrofit projects often face refusals, access issues, scheduling challenges, and customer concerns.

The toolkit draws on housing provider Broadacres’ in-house resident liaison officer model - an approach that has successfully addressed these challenges by putting residents at the centre of delivery. It explains why RLOs are vital to successful retrofit programmes and offers practical guidance on how to support them.

New guidance for tenants with heat pumps

Over the past two years we’ve been working with social housing tenants in Manchester, to better understand the challenges households face in the transition to heat pumps. As part of this project we’ve developed a range of guidance to help tenants to reduce their bills, we’re sharing some of this general advice here in the hope of improving outcomes for tenants and social landlords.

EcoHome Lab: 11 December

Now we're entering the darker months, we thought it would be interesting to share strategies for making the most of your battery storage (without the sun). In next week's EcoHome Lab we'll be hearing from a couple of people with fully electric households on how they use scheduling and Home Assistant automations to maximise the use of off-peak energy to reduce costs and carbon. We'll also have a short into to the Batpred addon, which can automate your battery charge and discharge.

All welcome and please do get in touch if you've anything to share on the night.
