Breaking News: Power Outage Leaves more than 1,700 in the Dark

A power outage caused by overconsumption of electricity has left 1,700 customers in the dark tonight in Pacific Palisades, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

There are three outages affecting the area, LADWP spokesperson MaryAnne Pierson said.

Customers or services can include commercial buildings or residences, she added. One whole apartment building can count as one service, Pierson said.

"Right now, there are 34 crews out in the field, 14 of which are in the metropolitan area," she said.

Pierson said she did not know when power would be restored as work crews were still en route to the area.

As of 7:30 p.m., the outage was still impacting the area. Local residents are reporting outages at Palisades Drive near Sunset Boulevard, Amalfi south of Sunset Boulevard, El Medio Bluffs, ABCs, upper Chautauqua and Castellamare areas.

The outage is most likely caused by overuse because of the hot weather, Pierson said.

Current temperature in the area is 87 degrees with expected lows to reach 68 degrees later in the evening, according to the National Weather Service..
