Subject: #BrandAudit2021 Tips ✍️ & Happy World Cleanup Day, of course!

This weekend is World Cleanup Day —

that means it's time for #BrandAudit2021, too!
Here are some tips to make sure you're ready 😎

Where do I find the data cards and visual guide?

Everything you need can be found in the Brand Audit Toolkit. You'll see "Data Card & Visual Guide" at the top. The forms are available in over a dozen languages!

How can I ensure I am recording my data well?

Please complete the entire form, and leave nothing blank! Even if you find a mysterious unbranded plastic fragment, you can still record that. You would write "Unknown" for brand name, and select O ("Other/Unknown") for Product Type and Material Type. For layers, you can select "Unsure" if you really don't know. There is always a solution!

What is the difference between brand and parent company? Which one should I record in my data card?

Brand names are the trademark name given to a product by its parent company. A parent company typically owns and produces multiple brands – sometimes hundreds! In the data card, we require you to record the brand name. Typically, the brand name is the largest word on the item, while the parent company is in smaller print in a less obvious place. For example, Dasani is a bottled water brand, and this brand is owned by parent company The Coca-Cola Company (here is a visual).

Please consider also recording the parent company if you can, especially if you will submit your data with the Excel sheet. This is an extra step that really helps us grow our database! The Excel sheet is the only data submission platform that allows you to input the parent company information.

What if I have an urgent question about the data and need help?

Recording brand audit data sounds like a lot of work. Can I still have fun?
Yes, of course you can! In fact, we highly recommend you have as much fun as possible! Stay healthy and hydrated, pack a snack, and bring a friend. If you take photos and videos of all the fun you have, please post on your social media account with the hashtag #BrandAudit2021 so we can feel the love, too! ❤️
