Exposing the Misleading Claims about Chemical Recycling

 

A new report by Greenpeace USA shows how the companies that make and sell plastic are using the fantasy of “chemical recycling” to mislead investors, governments, and the public. At the center of this deceptive marketing is the plastic industry’s US-led trade association: the American Chemistry Council.


We cannot recycle our way out of the plastic pollution crisis. We need to turn off the tap!

Reusable IS still possible during this pandemic!

 

According to an article by South China Morning Post, an estimated 129 billion disposable masks and 65 billion gloves are used around the world every month. Waste management is becoming a growing challenge around the world, and particularly for Asian cities dealing with the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. 


#breakfreefromplastic Global Coordinator Von Hernandez said, “While we recognise that there are situations which warrant the use of disposable personal protective equipment (PPEs), there is also increasing recognition of their long-term impacts. Cases of infection via surface transmission remain unproven, but the plastics industry has been quick to capitalise on public fears to justify the increasing use of single-use plastics.”

ESDO launches Zero Waste Project in Bangladesh

 

Just IN! #breakfreefromplastic member Environment and Social Development Organization (ESDO) launches its Zero Waste Project in Dhaka, Bangladesh! 


ESDO hopes to transform three different localities into zero waste zones with plans to set up four waste composters, improve three existing waste disposal sites, and distribute waste bins at the household level.

In the UK, 59 billion pieces of packaging are produced by supermarkets annually, totaling 800,000 tonnes every year. Supermarkets need to be more transparent about HOW they are reducing their plastic and waste footprint! 


#BreakFreeFromPlastic member Surfers Against Sewage recently launched Trash Talk, calling on UK supermarkets and members of parliament to reduce plastic packaging. The time for action is now!
