Just Released: Global Plastics Law Database Is Live

Plastic Pollution Coalition, Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide, Surfrider Foundation U.S., and other #BreakFreeFromPlastic members have created a new database that tracks legislation covering plastics across the supply chain, making it easier for policymakers and advocates to track legislation.

EU Proposal on Regulation of Microplastics Misses the Mark

This week saw the long-awaited publication of the European Commission’s proposal for a regulation on pellet loss to tackle microplastic pollution. Under the Rethink Plastic alliance, #BreakFreeFromPlastic members in Europe have been campaigning for ambitious policies that address microplastic pollution for several years. Although our members are pleased to see pellets loss addressed by the European Commission, unfortunately, the proposed regulation leaves out other major sources of microplastics pollution..

Africa Members at the 2023 Regional Gathering

Africa Regional Members Meeting 2023

Fifty-five African members from 17 countries attended the Africa Regional Members Gathering held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from 09 October to 12 October. The meeting which was hosted by Nipe Fagio, a Tanzanian organisation, was attended by African members from 17 countries. The agenda was jam-packed with exciting activities including inspirational stories from the movement, a case study launch, and strategic conversations on campaign areas and African sub-regional priorities. Members also had an opportunity to visit the Bonyokwa Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Dar es Salaam, where 35 permanent jobs have been created for waste cooperatives in Bonyokwa, and daily collection of the source separated waste is afforded to 2800 households, 400 business establishments, 02 schools, 04 churches. The member gathering ended with a fun dinner celebrating Tanzanian cultural music and dance.

New Report on China’s Plastic Pollution Control and Recycling Policy Is Out!

Last month, the Green Recycled Plastic Supply Chain Joint Working Group (GRPG) and the All-China Environmental Protection Federation jointly released the "Policy and Practice Report on Plastic Pollution Control and Recycling in China, " which provides a detailed analysis of national-level policy distribution in China and offers a comprehensive overview of the entire plastic industry chain. Notably, the report emphasizes recycling and reuse within the context of plastic management.
