Ineos cuts major plastics investment in wake of court action

 

Following ClientEarth’s November court win, there has been a surprise announcement from petrochemical giant Ineos.  Project One, one of its two major plastics units in the Port of Antwerp, Belgium, has been put on ice. This is a big win for the climate. Congratulations to #BreakFreeFromPlastic members who helped to make this happen!

LA Times Endorses the Presidential Plastics Action Plan

 

In November 2019, the Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW)—a nonprofit group whose members include the world’s biggest fossil fuel and petrochemical companies—said that the Renew Oceans project would be expanded worldwide and “ultimately could stop the flow of plastic into the planet’s ocean.” Today, virtually all that remains of the $5 million project are a wheelbarrow and a handful of litter traps outside a locked office in Varanasi, India.

McDonald’s Announces Ban on PFAS Chemicals

 

McDonald’s is banning PFAS (the abbreviation for a group of manufactured chemicals) from its food packaging! Thanks to leaders with the Mind the Store campaign, more than 75,000 people urged the company to take action to protect its customers, communities, and the planet. 

“These toxic chemicals last forever in the environment and contaminate drinking water. Especially now, as we fight a pandemic, we need to minimize exposures to toxic chemicals like PFAS that can make us more vulnerable to COVID-19 and its complications.” — Erika Schreder, Toxic-Free Future’s Science Director.
