Player development beyond training
A goal is not a plan
Most players know what they want.
Make the team. Earn more minutes. Score more goals. Become a starter. Play in college. Sign a professional contract.
The harder part is turning that ambition into a plan you can actually follow.
A useful goal-setting system separates the result you want, the progress you can measure, and the work you can control.

Featured story
Three ways to organize your goals
Outcome goals give you direction, but they cannot be your only measure of success. Performance goals help you track whether you are actually improving. Process goals turn the bigger target into specific actions you can repeat each week — like extra passing reps, film review, focused one-on-one defending work or asking your coach for feedback. The goal is not just to know what you want. It is to build a system that gives you a better chance of getting there.

Why it matters
Focus on the work you can repeat
When players judge every week by goals, minutes, or wins, one poor result can feel like failure. A process goal gives them a clear next step and a better way to measure whether the work is moving forward.
