| Mark Arnold - Digital Debut |
|
Mark Arnold found clay in a non-traditional way. While growing up in Pittsburgh, PA, he suffered a career ending injury in the BMX circuit. Mark then decided to enroll in a ceramics class at a local community college to help with his healing process. It was there that he decided to take clay to the next level, and he quickly transferred to Edinboro University where he received his B.F.A in ceramics. He is currently a second year MFA candidate at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
Mark enjoys making functional pottery that fulfills specific purposes, such as mugs teapots, and jars. Drawing from his days as a BMX rider, his forms embrace repetition and pattern. It’s the architecture of the cities buildings and bridges that fill his rich surfaces. In order to keep the work from becoming too rigid, and losing its allure to function, Mark introduces lines, dots, and circles referencing abstract expressionism.
