Subject: Visiting Glass Artist + SipShop

Visiting Artist

Morgan Peterson is the Belger Glass Annex’s inaugural visiting artist. Known for her thought-provoking, large-scale glass sculptures, referencing themes of pop culture and true crime stories, Morgan leads a five-day, hands-on workshop that focuses on color application and narrative. Morgan will guide participants through the development and incorporation of personal stories and the use of color to add depth to glass sculpture. Participants will learn glassblowing and sculpting techniques that push scale and add realism.  Bonus: While participants will solely work in hot shop processes, Morgan will also discuss cold working techniques.

Morgan Peterson is a Seattle-based pop culture artist working in glass.  She attended the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston from 2001 to 2006 and received a dual BFA in Glass and Studio for Interrelated Media.  Prior to joining Dale Chihuly’s team, she managed Martin Blank’s studio, and has worked with many of the country’s leading artists.

The highly anticipated SipShop kicks off on First Friday, February 4th and runs through February 12th!  This sale of cups, mugs and drinking vessels created by Belger Artists in Residence, is in its eighth year. Proceeds support residents’ studio practices and professional pursuits.  SipShop is perfect for new and returning collectors, and for Valentine’s Day gift-giving.  Each Resident Artist makes a limited number of  SipShop pieces.  Some are available at a special collector’s price of $35, to encourage a new generation of collectors. Belger Annual Members are invited to a special preview event and can buy mugs before they're available to the general public.

Now is the perfect time to become a Belger Arts Member! Annual membership perks include invitations to member events like the February 3rd SipShop Members Online Preview, discounts on Belger Crane Yard Gallery purchases and Crane Yard Clay supply purchases, and discounted kiln firings.

February's Mug of the Month artist is resident artist Adams Puryear whose mugs are the perfect blend of sleek design and whimsey. The geometric handles have a pop of gold luster, and the imagery is a mix of hand-drawn bunnies, snakes, and wizards. These mugs will be available online and in the gallery starting Tuesday, February 1 at 10 am CST. Learn more about Adams by visiting his artist page.

You can now purchase a Mug of the Month even if you don't have a subscription! This means you can buy a mug by an artist you love when they become available. However, having a monthly subscription reserves your spot to receive a new mug before they're available for sale to the public.

Ending Soon

There is still time to grab a January Mug of the Month by resident artist Sun Young Park! To ensure that you get a mug every month, we recommend that you sign up for a monthly subscription. Learn more about Sun Young and her process by visiting her artist page.
