Belger Crane Yard Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of two- and three-dimensional artwork created by members of the Studio Nong Collective during their artistic residency in Kansas City. The Collective consists of eight artists and educators from the Guangxi Arts Institute in China, Kansas City Art Institute, and Memphis School of Art. Formed through a shared interest in the traditions and techniques of figurative ceramic sculpture, each member has a unique, creative approach and shares an interest in past traditions of eastern and western practice as an innovative platform. The Studio Nong International Residencies program, established by the Collective, produces work made in an atmosphere of intensive collaboration and mentorship, that allows each member of the collective to function simultaneously as mentor and maker. Participating artists are: Jessie Fisher and Misty Gamble (Kansas City Art Institute); Zhenhai He, Shanwu Huang, Bangmin Nong, and Jigang Qin (Guangxi Arts Institute); Scott Seebart (Kansas City Art Institute); and Leandra Urrutia (Memphis College of Art).

Jigang Qin and Bangmin Nong conduct a one-day workshop on August 8, 2015 entitled, A Master Class in Anatomical Approaches and Metholodies: The Bust. Zhenhai He and Shanwu Juang conduct a second one-day workshop on August 15, 2015, A Master Class in Ancient Traditions and Contemporary Form: Calligraphy and Mishima. Hours for each Master Class are 10am to 4pm. A free public presentation follows each master class at 7PM.

The exhibition and workshops are part of a six-week residency that includes programming at the Memphis Studio of Art and Kansas City Art Institute. For more information or to register for the workshop, call 816-474-7316 or visit www.redstarstudios.org.
